I live in Baltimore and I have a 4 1/2 month old baby girl. After I heard about this story, my heart broke and I cried. I cannot imagine fathom the pain that the DelRicco family must be going through. Ava’s such a beautiful baby and so strong. What a fighter. She’s proof that babies are so much stronger than what people really think. Never underestimate the strength of a precious baby. I donated to the DelRicco fund, I hope that it helps. I pray that the Lord keeps all of the babies around the world safe, healthy, and strong. God Bless!

    Dear Baby Ava,
Hearts around this whole Country are aching for you and your family. A roller coaster of emotions, from such sorrow and tears, to such anger that this man was so heartless as to get into a car, in his condition and drive. I cry when I see your pictures, but can’t help but believe it will all be ok. It just has to be. You have been such a fighter so far and beaten the odds. I truly believe you will continue to do so for as long as it takes. I would just love to wrap my arms around you little one. Hugs to mom and dad as they struggle right along with you. My prayers seem to flow all day as I think of you so often. I do believe that God has gotten the message and he WILL lay his healing hands on your little body and make you “all better” as kids say. I have 9 grandkids of my own, and your tragedy has definitely made us all more aware of our own mortality. Stay strong little one and God be with you throughout this whole ordeal

I have been praying for Ava. She is such a cutie! I have a 6-month-old little boy, and I can’t even imagine how a tragedy like this would feel. Obviously, God has a plan for baby Ava. She is a fighter, and that’s God’s way of saying she has A LOT of life ahead of her. It’s truly amazing, the amount of support from her family, friends, and even those who don’t know her personally. Children bring so much love, and Ava is no exception to that. She’s amazing, and I will continue to pray. Love to the family, and especially Little Miss Ava!

  39. rryoder@frontiernet.net says:

More heartfelt prayers have gone to the throne of our heavenly Father tonight/this morning on behalf of Ava!. A little trouble sleeping..thought I’d search youtube for a nice happy cute story of a baby walking with a walker.. and then a most astonishing switch to this most sad happening for Ava. Just couldn’t believe it. Thought.. Nooo not little Ava I just saw walking with her walker!! From joyfully walking with her walker to her being soooo injured. The video is soo moving ..the music..the story…Amazing Grace…working though something sooo difficult . I rejoice with you in the comfort of our Heavenly Father’s care for us. He never promised us a smooth pain free life. We have his assurance of his comfort and that he does sooo well. So saddened but blessed by your lovely family’s love for each other and your expression of faith. Looking foward to hearing about Ava’s continuing progess. God Bless you…from the Lancaster Amish countryside when we continue to learn about forgiveness in tragedy.

I am so emotionally attached to your story and can not wait for the day that Ava is on the last stretch of the road to recovery. I also can not wait for the day when selfish people are punished justifiably for the horrible things they do to innocent people, like your sweet baby Ava. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at all times.

The Old English meaning of the name Ava means “breath of life”—how appropriate. You are such a beautiful little girl and I pray that each day will bring you closer to getting well. It looks like you have an amazing family and are surrounded by people that love and care for you, even strangers such as myself. I will think of you often and pray for you and your family during this trying time. I have faith that God will hold you in “the palm of His hand”.

    -Ariel

  60. Peggy Presgraves says:

God Bless you today Darling Baby Ava I have been Praying constantly for your complete recovery and for your Mommy and Daddy also.

  61. Tammy Hodgson says:

I don’t know your family. As a matter of fact I had never heard your names until I came across Ava’s story from a friends post on FB. I live in Manistee, MI. Your family and Ava’s story have touched my heart deeply. I have four children of my own and cannot imagine what your family is going though. I have Prayed daily from the moment I seen your baby girls story. I also have seen the number of people that have reached out in Prayer and doing whatever else they are able to. Sometimes I think we forget just how fragile life is or can be until something completely out of our control happens. I couldn’t possibly put into words how I feel about what happened to your daughter by the ignorance of someone’s judgment. I won’t even try because there is nothing to gain by hatred toward someone else. You’re daughter’s story has renewed my faith in God and others. The outpouring of Love and Prayer’s has reminded me that with God all things are possible. I have read what the doctor’s have told you to expect for Ava in update posts, and then I also read what is actually going on. I know sometimes in order to get where we want to be that we sometimes have to take a step back to get there. I also believe that God is the ultimate healer and he is working through the doctors and nurses taking care of Ava. She is already a miracle in my eyes and seeing how far she has come already is amazing. I have no doubt that Ava will make a complete recovery. Matthew 18:19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on Earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.” Lord I ask that you continue to wrap your healing hands around Ava and heal her completely inside and out. Lord I also ask that you give Ava’s family the strength they need to endure all the pain they have infront of them. I ask this in Jesus name, AMEN!

  67. Melissa says:

I pray for Ava daily and think of her often time throughout the day. This could very easily be any one of us in this situation. I think about all the wreckless drivers there are on the roads. I pray that this sweet angel makes a full recovery. I have been praying for a miracle for my baby girl Abigail since she was born. Yesterday I got my miracle. My sweet baby has avoided her first surgery and does not need a nerve repair. Now I will continue to pray for Ava’s miracle. I understand the fear and hopelessness watching your child laying in a hospital bed. I will continue to pray for and love Ava. May God reach out and lay his hands on this family and contiue to bless them.

  68. Shan says:

I can say that I have never been so touched by a story of a complete stranger. Like many others have said, I don’t know Ava or her family, but I think about her everyday and am continuing to follow her story and updates everyday! I am always checking the many pages for current updates hoping to hear nothing but positive changes, and so far it’s been just that! I am not one to usually pray when I am alone, not in church etc..however I sat on my couch yesterday and said a prayer out loud for baby Ava, and will continue to do so! It brings tears to my eyes every video I watch, I have a 9month old daughter and COULDNT imagine going through this. I admire the strength for her parents, family, as well as baby Ava! Stay strong beautiful!!!

    • Tony Roadarmel says:

      Dear George and Ann Marie,
I am praying for you both and you precious little daughter. I do not pretend to know what you are feeling right now. However, I would like to share a short story with you about my amazing daughter, Amanda, and the time I sat where you are sitting. My prayer is that you might find additional comfort and hope.
My little baby girl was there at Johns Hopkins when she was around 18 months old. Amanda was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis. She was going to have to have reconstructive surgery to her skull. The way I understood it, they were going to saw her skull apart and put it back together so her brain would have room to grow. Just before surgery, Dr. Carson spoke with my wife and I reassuring us and told us not to worry, he did this type of surgery all the time. I think he told us surgery would take 5 hours. After 6 ½ hours I felt like climbing the walls. After 7 hours I felt like climbing out of my skin. Every feeling I had fought against my very nature as a father to be my daughter’s protector. For the first time in my life I experienced the feeling of complete helplessness and uncontrollable grief. I may have even felt some things that have not been defined or recognized as human feelings yet.
Finally they came out and told us that surgery was over and everything went just fine. However, her eye lids were swollen closed and she couldn’t see. Ok…so that did it for me. I had no idea what my daughter had just gone thru or if she was in any kind of pain, but now she couldn’t see? This was just emotional overload for me. They told me that her swollen eye lids were only temporary but that didn’t offer me much comfort. She would cry and cry. I remember holding her close and rocking her so she could feel safe and secure. I remember wanting more than anything to trade places with her. I wondered how much pain she was in and what she was thinking about. She was so little and so innocent. I couldn’t wait to look into those little blue eyes again and say “daddy loves you so much”. It didn’t take very long for me to see those beautiful eyes again. And when I did, I saw hope. I was able to tell her “daddy is here, and loves you so much; everything is going to be ok”.
Amanda is 16 now and a junior in high school. She will be applying to Johns Hopkins later this year to study Neuroscience. Her goal is to become a pediatric neurosurgeon.
I did sit where you are sitting 14 years ago. I know it’s difficult or even impossible to see past today or even tomorrow. But I do know this for sure….I believe in a God that LOVES little children, and the same God can do ANYTHING, so I will pray that God will continue to be with Ava and heal her, I will keep you both in prayer as well.

  69. Lauren Henry says:

The story of Ava and her family has affected me in so many different ways, and although I will probably never come face to face with her or her family, she is the first thing on my mind when I wake up in the morning, and last thing before I go to bed. Checking on her during the day through the updates about her has become part of my daily routine, and I pray that she has a full recovery and one day soon her family can return home as a whole. She is an inspiration, and the people who surround her are the true definition of family, so loving and devoted. I look forward to the day when I see the update posted that little Ava has walked out of the hospital holding her mommy and daddy’s hands, smiling and waving to all of the doctors and nurses who took good care of her and saved her life!

  70. Leslie Simmons says:

  71. Kelley Crawford says:

We are praying hard for Baby Ava. I have a 12 month old Princess of my own. This tragedy is so unfair. May God hold her in his loving arms and help her to heal and recover. I pray that she has a long life ahead of her and that someday soon she will be able to laugh and run and play. No one deserves to go through this. I am just so sorry. Praying for all of you!!

  78. Mary Glass says:

Anne Marie and George, your little girl’s terrible misfortune brings tears down my face. She is a beautiful girl who is obviously happy and loved without limits. Her accomplishments in life will have no limits, I’m sure. Her recovery will be the first testimony to this. Your little girl seems very determined to play with you two and her big sister sooner rather than later, and I am confident in the Lord that he will share this little angel with you for years to come. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Stay strong and keep reminding precious Ava of your love and all of the positive blessings the future holds for your family.

  80. jess says:

I am sorry I am not able to donate right now. I really wish I could. I would like you to know how much we are thinking about your family. Being a mother myself, I cried watching the video. I truly can not imagine what you must be feeling deep down inside. My family and I have you and your family in our most heartfelt prayers as I can see many others do too. I wish I could take this pain away for you all, especially since it didn’t have to happen. I hope you all stay strong. There are a lot of us that are here to support you the only way we know how: through our prayers.

  81. Megan says:

My heart is so heavy for your beautiful family after watching Ava’s story. I cannot imagine the strength it must take for all of you, even Sage to get up every day. The Lord is watching over you and he is holding Ava’s hand right now. I am brought to tears as I sit here a mother myself and contemplate your pain. When our children hurt all we want to do is rush to their side and fix what is wrong. Whether it’s peroxide and a band aid or their vaccinations at the Dr. The pain we feel as parents when we can’t fix what is broken is the worst of kind of pain. I pray for you to have the strength for Ava and one another as such a tragedy has impacted you. I pray for you to have strength for Sage and to be able to continue being the best parents you can to her during this difficult time. I pray that the Lord lay his mighty hand on top of that angel you have and may his amazing power and love penetrate through all of her earthly wounds and may she not only rise but may she walk, skip, run and conquer over the evil and show this world that miracles do exist. May God bless you abundantly and may every person who see’s your story be moved. In our Father’s name, Amen.

  82. April Maddox says:

I am one of those “complete stangers” that you mentioned. Please feel comfort in the thousands of prayers being said. Psalm 30:2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. Ava is being healed as she rests and as she rests, this is your sweet little girl’s conversation.

  83. Melissa says:

My prayers go out for this beautiful baby girl and her family. “Lord, may you grant Ava strength to continue fighting this fight. Overwhelm the family with comfort, love, and all the help they need. Let everyone see that miracles do happen and this little girl is an example of one of your miracles! In the Lords name I pray. Amen!!! “

  84. Chellis Gonzalez Bigsby says:

I don’t pray, I do. So I am making a donation to this family of strangers to me, because I believe in action. This story is tragic and it is powerfully presented on this web page, so I also congratulate its creators on taking positive concrete steps to offer aid to this family. Very well done. And, because it never hurts to offer words of support and encouragement, I wish you success and the DelRicco family courage, love and the best medical care ever received. Having been a PICU nurse at Hopkins MANY years ago, I can’t think of a better place to find the many miracles you will need. I also challenge everyone who feels moved to offer a prayer or words of support to also DO, and give something to this family as you would want others to give to you. (And hope that should you ever face such tragedy, you have such brilliant and caring friends as these!)

  85. Christina says:

  112. Kim N. says:

I’ve been watching the news & video clips through Youtube & FB…thinking how sweet of an angel’s face Ava has & see now how her spirit has given her the strength she’s needed & has. It makes me so angry for the guy, who knowingly got behind the wheel & walked out w/ only a few scratches & out of jail already (but that’s for another msg.)! Right now & since I’ve heard of the accident, I’ve been keeping her in my thoughts & prayers. I’ve been checking FB updates about her progress….& that’s when I know ANGELS are looking over baby Ava! God bless you Ava & your little sister, who I know must be so confused, maybe scared, &/or sad as well. May God bless you, George & Ann Marie & the rest of your close family…I know this time must be so scary! Prayers will be said everyday until we know Ava is safe enough to go home!
    ~ Love & Respectfully,
    Kim N.

I pray right now for Ava. I pray that you and your family have some peace of mind that she is in one of the best hospitals in the world (JHU). I am a past 20yr Paramedic and when I saw the pictures of the accident, MY HEART SANK! It brought back images in my mind of one of the worst accidents I ever had to respond to where an entire family of 5 was involved. It had such a psychological effect on my life that I could NEVER forget.
I said that, to say this. I took care of a little boy with a massive head injury. I thought that he would never survive. HE BEAT THE ODDS through the power of prayer. I know it can happen. All of my prayers for Ava and my most heartfelt best wishes for your family!

Baby Ava, you are amazing <3 Living proof that miracles exist, I will keep you in my heart and prayers.

  151. Amelia says:

In times like these words fail to say enough. A verse of scripture I find helpful in times of sorrow is Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us[a] with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
To the family I pray that you can rest in God’s perfect peace and for sweet precious baby Ava I pray that you can grow up and learn what it is to love another. That you will know what it is to find joy and what it is to have your heart broken. Life isn’t easy but I pray that you get to experience it for its ups and downs. I hope with all my heart and pray with all my strength that God brings you through this and you can continue to bless your family with your beautiful face, smile and laughter. May God show His love, mercy and peace. My prayers and love are with you sweet baby and your family.

  172. Jennifer Reichard says:

I deeply feel this family’s pain. I was involved in a hit and run accident 6 years ago. I was hit by a man with 55 year history of DUI. He had been arrested many times and had been involved in many accidents. After 2 years and 3 trials I put him in federal prison. He continued to drive past my home with the newly built wheelchair ramp every day after the accident, even though he had NEVER had a driver’s licence and had been ordered by a judge not to drive. We had him arrested and he was released. I pray for Ava’s quick and complete healing and want you to know not to give up and to put this man where he belongs so no other family will ever have to suffer because of him!

  173. Jo Ann Dorrough says:
